Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) Integration

Last updated: February 12, 2026

Boost supports Easy Digital Downloads, so digital product sites can display real social proof popups based on EDD activity (sales and cart actions). This is ideal for selling downloads, licenses, memberships, or other digital goods powered by EDD.

When you choose Easy Digital Downloads as the Boost source, you’ll select a trigger subtype.

Trigger subtypes

1) Transaction (all downloads)

Shows notifications based on recent EDD purchases, across your whole catalog.

Use it for: broad “people are buying” social proof on any page.
Example message:
[name] from [town], [country] purchased [productname] · [time]

2) Specific transaction (filtered)

Same as Transaction, but limited to:

  • selected downloads, and/or
  • selected categories (if you use download categories/taxonomies)

Use it for: highlighting best-sellers, category pages, or focused campaigns.
Example message:
Someone from [country] just bought [productname] · [time]

3) Add to cart clicks (interest signals)

Triggers when a visitor clicks Add to Cart for a download.

This is useful when you want to show activity even before a purchase happens—especially helpful for new stores or lower-volume products.

Example message:
[name] added [productname] to cart · [time]

What data Boost uses (EDD)

For EDD triggers, Boost builds notifications using the payment record:

  • Name ([name])
Comes from the customer details stored with the payment. Boost typically formats it in a privacy-friendly way (example: “John S.”).
  • Location ([town], [state], [country])
Pulled from the payment record when available (or derived from other available location data depending on your setup).
  • Time ([time])
Based on the payment timestamp (for transaction boosts) or the action timestamp (for add-to-cart boosts).
  • Product ([productname])
The download/product name that was purchased or added to cart.

Tips / best practices

  • Start with Transaction (all downloads) to build trust quickly.
  • Add Specific transaction boosts for your top products or high-converting categories.
  • Use Add to cart clicks if you want more frequent activity signals (useful on low-volume sites).
