Limited Data Use (LDU) Rule (Inform & Opt-out)

This rule type is built for opt-out style compliance. Visitors can browse normally, you inform them about tracking, and they can opt out (negative consent) from specific categories.

What this rule does

  • Shows a consent message using the Inform & Opt-out model.
  • Lets visitors express positive consent (accept) or negative consent (opt out).
  • Can apply platform-specific behavior (LDU / Consent Mode) instead of fully blocking scripts—based on the switches in the rule.

Rule settings

Enable rule

Turn the rule ON/OFF. If it’s off, it won’t target anyone.

Locations

Choose the countries/regions this rule targets.

Show this rule when we can’t retrieve the IP

Use this as a fallback when geolocation fails.
Good for ensuring visitors still see some consent UI even if their IP can’t be resolved.

Consent type

Set to Inform and Opt-out.
This defines the overall behavior of the rule and the consent UI logic.

Limited Data Use and Google Consent Mode

These options change how ConsentMagic handles scripts/events for specific platforms under this rule:

For Meta, use the Limited Data Use (LDU) flag instead of blocking the browser and API events

When enabled, ConsentMagic will prefer LDU behavior for Meta (instead of fully blocking Meta browser/API events), according to your consent outcome.

This is the “LDU option” you see on the page. LDU works in specific US states, don’t change the default Location settings!

For Google Tags, use Google Consent Mode instead of blocking the scripts

When enabled, ConsentMagic will use Google Consent Mode behavior for Google tags rather than hard-blocking them.

For Microsoft UET Tags, use Consent Mode instead of blocking the scripts

Similar idea for Microsoft UET: use Consent Mode-style handling instead of blocking.

For Reddit pixels, use the Limited Data Use (LDU) flag instead of blocking events

Enables LDU behavior for Reddit instead of blocking.

Sticky options

Sticky

Shows a small sticky consent bar after the visitor has expressed consent.

Mobile side sticky button

Adds a side sticky button on mobile (positioned so it doesn’t overlap content).

Buttons & interaction controls

Deny all button

Adds a one-click Deny all option.

Hide close button

Removes the close icon to force an explicit choice (positive or negative consent).

Add custom button

Adds an extra button (default text: “Minimum recommended”), controlled from global text settings or overridden per rule.

Privacy link

Adds a Privacy Policy link in the consent UI.

Page behavior

Block scroll

Prevents scrolling until the visitor interacts with the consent message.

Close on scroll

Closes the message when the visitor scrolls.

Refresh page after consent

Reloads the page after the visitor accepts/rejects, so scripts/content can update based on the new consent state.

Show the consent message until the visitor interacts with it

Keeps the message visible until the user takes an action.

Excluded from consent storing

If enabled, the visitor’s consent is not stored for this rule.

Content (UI layout & text)

Content presets

Choose the banner style and placement (example options shown):

  • Design (e.g., Multi-step design)
  • Theme (e.g., Light)
  • Layout (e.g., Small bar)
  • Position (e.g., Bottom)

Custom text

Enable to override the default rule text.
For global text edits, use the Text Section.
